Flatpack Symbol, 2017

Johana Hartwig

This work explores the inter-relationship and interpretation outputs of digital and mass and data management. It looks the digital visual language used to manage and communicate physical masses.

The work explores scale, digital and physical processes and materials, as it seeks to deconstruct the symbols used to describe natural features on an Ordinance Survey map.

This work has been inspired by the destruction at Palmyra and explores the theme of impermanence, fragility and hope. It also considers the potential for creating large scale works in unfired clay. No hardener, fixings or support structures are used to display the work and are therefore temporary and fragile.
