Five2Watch: Jewellery

For #Five2Watch this week we've selected five artists who create jewellery: Rebecca Wilson, Matthew Thomas, Nilplug, Joanne Haywood and Gill Forsbrook

"Bite Me!" (large Faceted Necklace), 2013

Rebecca Wilson

Inspired by the greatest pleasures in life, sex and food, deliciously irreverent ceramics and jewellery draw attention to the things that tempt us, and that which we choose to indulge in. The collection aims to glamorise the little pleasures in life, and elevates the status of humble confectionaries, so that each glitering cookie or sweetie becomes a sparkling gem-like accessory. In this age of austerity we must look to the humble things that make us happy, and we must celebrate them with reckless abandon. Sugar free, fat free, but completely indulgent. Can you be tempted? Go on, you know you want to!

Tasty little beads, pendants and studs are cast, piped or sculpted by hand in bone china and presented on sterling silver fittings in a black oxidised silver patina.

Rebecca Wilson

SPEKTRA, 2010-15

Matthew Thomas

Spektra - Transparency - Opacity
The transient nature of an image, multiple transformations, enveloped in a visual consciousness.

Matthew Thomas

Wrist Piece #1, 2016

Nilplug

Solid sterling silver lugs, beam and clasp on a brass band with olivewood side panels and a cocobolo, sterling silver and decorative pin detail.

Nilplug

Silivia's Brooch, 2013

Joanne Haywood

"As rich in having such a jewel,
As twenty seas, if all their sands were pearl.''

Joanne Haywood

Cr 24, 2013

Gill Forsbrook

This necklace is part of a collection of pieces that are inspired by the element Chromium

Chromium is a gray metal but many of its compounds are intensely colourful. As a trace element it colours rubies red and it is used in the production of pigments such as Chrome Yellow.
