About Alex Abel
I have worked as a professional artist since 1993, with a current role at Healthy Minds working with young people and supporting mental health through art.
My degree qualified me to work on Educational Media, I then pursued freelance commissions in art and education specialities and set up my business which traded across the UK for 19 years with many high-profile organisations such as English Heritage, UK councils and SureStart as well as museums, libraries and schools.
Previous commissions include work at Animania!, Calderdale College and with VAC on Commit to Change Project – helping young men on probation access art sessions for wellbeing. I have also supported NACRO Art Programmes and exhibited young people’s work across West Yorkshire.
I have recently worked with Hebden Bridge Festival on Underlands as part of the Landmarks Project https://www.hebdenbridgearts.co.uk/landmarks.html where I created 3 workshops with my colleagues, managed delivery with young people and created artwork for the final exhibition which appears on website: www.timeoutcalderdale.co.uk
I am also currently working on some freelance illustrations on Black History, online drawing sessions for Unison workers as part of their education project and family drawing sessions for Surestart.
